Product challenge

Map and list context

Users need to understand how markers, results, filters and the selected place relate to one another.

Our starting point

Map the discovery decision

Understand which local information matters and when a map is useful. Establish what users need to know before opening a detail view or making contact.

The map is part of a larger journey

Location is useful when it helps someone find a relevant activity, business or person and understand what to do next. Fitpool connects local sports discovery with participation, while our community platform combines maps, business profiles and messaging. We design the relationship between location and action across the whole experience.

Where the experience gets complicated

  1. Map and list context

Users need to understand how markers, results, filters and the selected place relate to one another.

  2. Local relevance

Distance alone does not establish a good match. Availability, activity type and profile information also influence the decision.

  3. Limited mobile space

Filters, map controls and detail panels compete for room on a small screen, especially while users are moving.

How we approach it

  • Understand which local information matters and when a map is useful. Establish what users need to know before opening a detail view or making contact.

  • Prototype marker selection, filtering and list behavior together. Preserve context when users pan, zoom or switch between views.

  • Connect location details with booking, participation or messaging as appropriate to the product. Use progressive disclosure for secondary information.

  • Review dense and sparse results, different screen sizes and location-permission states. Validate the journey beyond the map itself.
